Neuro-linguistic programming

NLP or Neuro-linguistic programming is an interpersonal communication model and an alternative approach to psychotherapy based on the subjective study of language, communication and personal change. It was created by Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder in the early 1970s. The initial focus of NLP was pragmatic, modeling three successful psychotherapists, Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir, and eventually Milton H. Erickson, with the aim of discovering what made these individuals more successful than their peers.

Today the predominant patterns of NLP, the application of those patterns, and many variants of NLP are found in seminars, workshops, books and audio programs in the form of exercises and principles intended to influence change in self and others. There is a great deal of difference between the depth and breadth of training and standards, and some disagreement between those in the field about which patterns are and are not "NLP". While the field of NLP is loosely spread and resistant to a single comprehensive definition, there are some common principles and presuppositions shared by its proponents. Perhaps most generally, NLP aims to increase behavioral choice by the manipulation of personal state, belief and internal representation either by a practitioner / trainer, or by self-application.

Success book author found the success pattern

In his latest book, "Masters of Success", Dr. Ivan Misner brings together a dream team of the successful to talk in forum about their various ideas of success. What he finds are recurring, and to him, undeniable themes.

Masters of Success is a unique book in a field dominated by singular voices on the subject of success. According to Misner, if you look long and hard enough at what a lot of successful people have done, and what their version of success looks like, you can get a good idea of some common characteristics. Misner, in this new best-seller, has identified seven such traits common to the successful, and he illustrates his points with dozens of stories demonstrating each.

This new book about success is making waves, not because of one man’s grand new idea of success, but because of the proof of it he has found by farming from many stories and looking for trends.

Pioneer of Self-Help Legal Books Retires

Ralph "Jake" Warner, the Berkeley activist-lawyer-author who set out to liberate law from the lawyers three decades ago, has retired from active management of Nolo, the nation´s leading provider of do-it-yourself legal and business books, software and online services.

Since co-founding the company in 1971, the longtime president of Nolo has sought to make the law more accessible to ordinary people. Warner is widely credited with creating today´s thriving market for self-help law and business books. "Millions of Americans owe an enormous debt to Ralph Warner and the industry he helped to launch," says Deborah Rhode, a professor at Stanford Law School.

"Ralph Warner is a visionary," adds attorney John Lamb of Sacramento, an expert in consumer law. "If you think back 30 years when the legal aid movement was in stride, the idea was to bring as much help as possible to people. Nolo books epitomize the essence of the movement."

"Under Warner´s leadership, Nolo has been a torch for increased legal access," says Forrest Mosten, a Los Angeles mediator and certified family law specialist. "His books have been revolutionary."

Warner began publishing when numerous publishers rejected the early books written by him and his colleagues. Always an innovator, he adapted his company to a changing world, adding software to books with the advent of the personal computer, and pioneering online marketing with the emergence of the Internet.  In addition to guiding the company, Warner was an active editor and author. He wrote many books, including Get a Life: You Don´t Need a Million to Retire Well. A new book, How to Run a Thriving Business, will be published this month.

You´re fired and You´re Hired

YOU'RE FIRED! Amy Henry, the female contestant to be fired on the you are firedfirst season of "The Apprentice",  has styled a career out of inspirational speaking engagements.  Her new book, "What It Takes", draws from the same material.  Ms. Henry uses her own business experiences to present, as her book's subtitle states, a modern woman's guide to success in business. Those who watched her season know that she has had to handle issues of sexuality at work, but in the book she seems more interested in bragging about her own attractiveness - she lets readers know that she is 5'8", weighs 120 pounds, and has been bleaching her hair blonde since the sixth grade.

YOU'RE HIRED! Apprentice fans saw a familiar face when Bill Rancic sat in for Donald Trump´s regular right-hand man, George Ross.  Sitting in one of the hit-series´ seats of judgment, the first season´s champion even had a heated exchange with the eventual recipient of Trump´s dreaded catch phrase, "You´re fired".   Rancic, 32, who was a Chicago entrepreneur before "The Apprentice", took some time out from his day job - working on the construction of Trump´s new 90-story Chicago high-rise.  He has a new book, You're Hired: How to Succeed in Business and Life From the Winner of 'The Apprentice', was surely an attempt to cash in on Rancic's instant fame after being hired by Trump.

7 Tools to beat addiction

7 TOOLS TO BEAT ADDICTION, Dr. Stanton Peele, a foremost addiction expert, gives us good reason to ponder the likely outcomes of most substance abuse treatment. Only 10 percent of Americans who enter traditional 12-step programs successfully enjoy long-term recovery.  7 TOOLS TO BEAT ADDICTION demonstrates how conventional treatment programs in the United States are failing the addiction community by ignoring the latest research, which conclusively demonstrates that people who entered 12- step programs were more likely to revisit their addictions than those who did not seek treatment.
