Alfred E. Neuman (1901 - ?)

Alfred E. Neuman is the familar face on Mad magazine. Neuman´s origins are shrouded in mystery and may never be fully known. His character was inspired by 19th-century medical pictures of people with hormone imbalances. Interestingly, Alfred E Newman missing tooth was featured as an illustration on an Edwardian newspaper advertisement (1910), for a painless dentistry franchise named Painless Romaine! Alfred E. Neuman was dubbed "the What-Me Worry? kid."

Neuman is distinguished by his jug ears, a missing front tooth, and one eye disquietingly lower than the other. More recently, many have noted his physical similarity to actual personages Prince Charles, Ted Koppel, and George W. Bush.
