1) Mass Market Paperback Book Jewel (Avon Historical Romance) by Avon. Eli Grayson is trying to get the town newspaper up and running again, but no investors will risk their money on the confirmed bachelor. Having no other options he asks his long time friend Jewel to pretend to be his wife, just for the night. Soon the people of the small town find out about the marriage and Eli has no choice but to marry Jewel secretly so that he does not lose the paper.

Jewel never thought the plan was a good one and now she is angry that she is being forced into marriage. She plans to make the best of it until she can find a way out of the vows in a year or two. The attraction grows from a friendship into a true love match quickly, but will the sparks be put out when a former lover of Eli´s comes back to cause trouble?

Jewel is a touching and sensual romance. Jewel is just the right amount of strong for a woman and Eli is the classic bad boy turned good man. I do think that Cecile was a bit over the top and the story would have been just as good without the bad guy plot. Overall I really liked Jewel, it was a good read.

2) Mass Market Paperback Book Jewel (Avon Historical Romance) by Avon. I have been a long time reader of Beverly Jenkins books and within the last 6 months we have formed a book club titled READ ROSES. We reviewed and discussed the book and the entire club gave it a 5 because of the honesty, community committment, sexual tone, mystery, and overall good feeling after reading the book. The lessons shared and learned are something everyone, anyone could relate to. We give this book a 5 with two thumbs up.

3) Mass Market Paperback Book Jewel (Avon Historical Romance) by Avon. This is my first book I bought from BJ. I loved it! It wasn´t so bogged down by meandering descriptions or extreme hardships for the characters. I read to relax and go to another place. Any book that gets too heavy is not for me. I loved the characters. I love the way the played off of eachother and the fact that they have known eachother for so many years and never thought to have an chance to seriously think in those ways until they are forced to. The story was believable. Great book. Can´t wait to get the next one.¤

Jewel Crowley had pretty much resigned herself to being a spinster, caring only for her father and brothers, tending to their needs for the rest of her life. Eli Grayson, the town´s most notorious Lothario, has never been interested in having a wife. But when the success of a major business deal is dependent on his marital status, Eli has no choice but to produce a wife. The first person that comes to mind is Jewel. Anxious to secure the deal, Eli asks Jewel to pose as his wife. She scoffs at the idea, but eventually gives in.

Jewel and Eli find themselves unable to resist the passion that sparks uncontrollably between them. And before long, a marriage that is supposed to be in name only turns into an unexpected love. Their love is put to the test, though, when a blast from Eli´s past blows into town, bringing with it trouble and strife.

I´ve been an avid romance reader since my early teens, but since I am not a history buff, I shied away from any novel that was historical in nature. A dear friend urged me to give Beverly Jenkins a try, and even gave me my first set of Mrs. Jenkins novels. I was hooked from the very first read and eagerly anticipate each and every story written by this very talented author.

Even though romance novels have to follow a certain plot structure, it is amazing what Mrs. Jenkins can do with that formulaic storyline. Not only does she turn it into a history lesson, but also a beautiful love story between strong characters. Even the staunchest critic of the romance genre would have a hard time not approving of her stories.

5) Mass Market Paperback Book Jewel (Avon Historical Romance) by Avon. I am a huge BJ Fan and i have read all of her books with the exception of indigo, and the new one wild sweet love. When i saw jewel i got really excited, but for some reason i feel like although the book was nice it was missing something, you know that bj flair that leaves satisfied and yearning for more. It didn´t measure up to its predecessors. the book was enjoyable don´t get me wrong, but it was just OK. As someone who has read her other books and fell in love with her memorable characters i have to say that this book doesn´t quite make it.¤
