The ivory tower Academics have become monks, the Geeks have become Morlocks, the Suits rule the economy, and the Politicians rule the world. Sound pretty paint-by-numbers? It´s not. The world-building is amazing and the characters are fleshed out more than enough to transcend stereotypes. And the central mystery, (i.e. where/when does this society arise?) is thoroughly compelling and goes through many crucial twists and turns throughout. This book certainly isn´t for everyone, but the people who it´s for will probably love it. It does warm my heart to see that there are enough of us still out there to make Anathem a #1 NYT Best Seller. The world hasn´t gone to the Slines, yet. . And summed up by saying fantastic, as usual.
