The Quickie by Little, Brown and Company

On 2010-03-17 Coyote, wrote: The Heroine of this novel is NOT likable and that is the bit of genius that makes it stand out from the crowd. It isn´t your run of the mill thriller.

The Quickie starts out with the Heroine making an unethical decision to cheat on her husband. It´s an act of revenge, taken after catching him in infidelity. The situation is such that it doesn´t seem like such a horrible thing to do to the reader, at yet it soon becomes clear that this is the point where she first went wrong.

The rest of the book explores the consequences of that first action and the further consequences of trying to dodge those consequence. Each action the heroine takes to clean up the mess she created only makes a bigger mess. She is continually presented with the choice: Dig herself deeper or face up to the penalties she´s accrued already.

Most thrillers end with evil defeated and the world set to right once more. I would hardly say that is the case with this book. Instead, it leaves you with the feeling that there are no simple answers and that even though you might win by fighting dirty, you pay a price whether you realize it or not.. And summed up by saying A Thriller That Asks Questions. Currently The Quickie has an overall rating of 6 over 10.
