1) Hardcover Book Light on Snow by Little, Brown and Company. The story is read by Alyson Silverman who does a fairly good job but it wasn´t enough to make this story interesting. The story is from 12 year old Nicky´s perspective some eighteen years after these series of events and Silverman does a credible job in having the listener believe she is Nicky. She has us feel sympathetic but often had me also feeling really down.

The story is not a happy type of story to begin with and the subject matter left me feeling very depressed. I´m not sure what the author was trying to accomplish but it missed its mark as I don´t want to read another of her books in this lifetime.¤

2) Hardcover Book Light on Snow by Little, Brown and Company. "Light On Snow" is a nicely crafted novel with nicely done secondary characters (I include the father in this group). There is one main character, Nicky, a twelve year old who has undergone the trauma of losing her mother and baby sister in an auto accident. Her father´s decision to respond by moving from a suburban life, and all her friends, to a new life outside a small Maine town where they knew no one was an additional shock. Her father is loving, but chronically sad.

Nicky bears scars from the trauma, but is a totally endearing character. She is almost as much a parent to her father as he is to her, and their relationship is a great strength of the novel. Shreve is smart enough to permit Nicky to feel resentment as well as love toward her father, and Nicky is both strong and vulnerable. While the reader may have some doubts that she could turn out as well as she does, the novel is well enough written that the reader can accept Nicky as realistic.

3) Hardcover Book Light on Snow by Little, Brown and Company. This book is a very light and easy read. I could have read it in one day. The story told by this bright and incredebly strong 12-year-old little girl, is sweet and sad and funny. It is a great story with and ending that left me satisfied.¤

4) Hardcover Book Light on Snow by Little, Brown and Company. The story itself is really only an average read. I´m not harboring any desire to hold onto the book to read again like I do with many. There is some nice character development of the little girl, as she transitions from girl to woman, both in a physical and emotional sense, and takes ownership of her grief, which she has subjugated to her father´s. The story was a little too painful, frankly, for me, as a mother of a one-year-old and a 5-year-old. The women are all so victimized... the mother and the little sister - a victim of an accident, the daughter - the victim of circumstances and her father´s grief, and Charlotte and her baby, the victim of her atrocious boyfriend/father. But so little growth for all of the pain. Not that every story should end with a big moralistic lesson and a nicely tied up ending -- life is messy. But I´m just not seeing a lot of redeeming value or satisfaction in finishing the book other than reminding me I need to get going on creating my family trust.¤

5) Hardcover Book Light on Snow by Little, Brown and Company. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it. The pace of the book was perfect, a real page turner. The author really made these characters feel alive, I felt as if I knew them and felt for them. This is the first book that I read by Anita Shreve and I will diffently read her others!¤

6) Hardcover Book Light on Snow by Little, Brown and Company. A brilliant and beautiful contemporary novel about love and memory from the author of the bestselling novels All He Ever Wanted and The Pilots Wife. The events of a December afternoon, during which a father and his daughter find an abandoned infant in the snow, will forever alter the 11-year-old girls understanding of the world and the adults who inhabit it: a father who has taken great pains to remove himself from society in order to put an unthinkable tragedy behind him; a young woman who must live with the consequences of the terrible choices she has made; and a detective whose cleverness is exceeded only by his sense of justice.Written from the point of view of 30-year-old Nicky as she recalls the vivid images of that fateful December, her tale is one of love and courage, of tragedy and redemption, and of the ways in which the human heart always seeks to heal itself.¤
