2) Paperback Book The Concubine (AWS African Writers Series) by Heinemann. I like reading, especially the African novels but there is nothing compared to ´the concubine´. the book truly revealed the true African village life as I know it. Amadi is a terrific writer as he took you to the superstitious african society. ´Concubine´ is the book that grabs your attention from the first page and hold it right up to the last page.¤

3) Paperback Book The Concubine (AWS African Writers Series) by Heinemann. The concubine is a story only truly understood by an african who has lived in africa or has had the stories of Afica told to them. The supernatural concept of being a "concubine" to an "unknown" that jealously fights away any other suitor is scary yet so true.
Other than the depth of the message, the writing is also beautiful and captive.¤

4) Paperback Book The Concubine (AWS African Writers Series) by Heinemann. Elechi Amadi´s "Concubine" is the story of a lovely and kind woman whose husband was taken away from her very suddenly. A young man in the village then finds himself becoming hopelessly and fatallly drawn to her. The otherworldly menace doesn´t make itself known until the last 50 pages or so, and then it becomes a question of fate. Nothing really new here, but it does show some cultural aspects of the Igbo.¤

5) Paperback Book The Concubine (AWS African Writers Series) by Heinemann. I read the book in my Senior Secondary 2(the American equivalent of Junior High in America) as our Literature in English Language book back in Nigeria. It is an epic novel. It was a really good read and me and most of my other classmates enjoyed reading and re-reading the book plus we looked forward to the tests and exams when we had to analyze characters and plots and stuff like that.

The book´s major character is Ihuoma, whose loving, adoring husband and father of her two children has just died. Ihuoma is, on a human scale, PERFECT. She does nothing wrong, she sees nothing wrong. The reader will go on to read about what the young widow has to go through and the dark, ugly secret about her that she does not even know herself[?]

(If the reader is an African s/he will understand the need for the question mark).

Being an Igbo (correct traditional spelling. "English" spelling is "Ibo") girl I find the book very cultural and deep in the Igbo tradition. I really like books like this and I think there are not many of them around these days that portray the depth of the African culture...the good, the bad and the ugly.
I encourage all to read African books and that includes me. This will make a great start if you want to delve into the world of African literature.

6) Paperback Book The Concubine (AWS African Writers Series) by Heinemann.

Mr. Amadi writes with...shapeliness and exhilaration ...a lovely and dignified picture of a society, not only still ruled by gods, but governed by a great delicacy in human relationships, full of respect for others.
    - The Guardian
Ihuoma, a beautiful young widow, has the admiration of the entire community in which she lives, and especially of the hunter Ekwueme. However, their passion is fated, and jealousy, a love potion and the closeness of the spirit world, lift this simple Nigerian tale onto a tragic plane.¤
