1) Paperback Book Linux Bible: Boot Up to Fedora, KNOPPIX, Debian, SUSE, Ubuntu , and 7 Other Distributions (Bible) by Wiley. The jury´s still out on this book. There may be all kinds of wonderful info in the text, but if I can´t get some of the distros that come on the accompanying CD and DVD to install and run, which was one reason for buying the book, I just can´t get all excited about recommending it to others. Sort of like buying computer hardware from eCost.com and then getting screwed out of the rebate by their convoluted rebate process.¤

2) Paperback Book Linux Bible: Boot Up to Fedora, KNOPPIX, Debian, SUSE, Ubuntu , and 7 Other Distributions (Bible) by Wiley. I have just entered the world of linux and bought this book as it seemed the best available in the market at the moment and i was proved right! The book also includes 12 different linux distributions but I suggest you install the Fedora Core 4 as the book is based on this distribution. Anyone new to linux must have this book as it starts from the very begining of linux and it gets tougher as the book proceeds.
Five stars to this great book.
Thank u Chris Negus¤

3) Paperback Book Linux Bible: Boot Up to Fedora, KNOPPIX, Debian, SUSE, Ubuntu , and 7 Other Distributions (Bible) by Wiley. This book is a quick way to get your hands on a dozen different Linux distributions. Some you can boot up directly (KNOPPIX and Damn Small Linux) from the CD and DVD that come with the book. Others you can install (Fedora, Debian, and others) from the same media.

If you have not used Linux before, the book was designed to help you install Linux, run basic applications (music/video players, word processors, Web browsers, email clients and so on), use the shell and desktops, and configure basic servers (email and Web servers). All the software described comes with the book, plus hundreds of other applications there wasn´t room to cover.

If you are a software developer, but haven´t used Linux, it presents the programming tools and environments that are available to help get started. The book also has a whole part that describes a dozen different Linux distributions, the communities that produce them, and features that make each special.

An experienced Linux person might want to use this book to find out about other Linux distributions or just have the media to show off many different Linux systems. But more likely, they would want to give it to a friend whom they want to let in on the secret.

I hope you enjoy my book. -- Chris Negus¤

4) Paperback Book Linux Bible: Boot Up to Fedora, KNOPPIX, Debian, SUSE, Ubuntu , and 7 Other Distributions (Bible) by Wiley. I bought this book because I recently installed Ubuntu on my pc. This is a generic book about linux, has a chapter with info about linux distributions. This one is very clear to a newbie show the big picture and who is who on linux and occupies 1/3 of the book. I am (or was) a Windows user, and this book lacks of examples as "in Windows is...", but can be an advantage if you are really newbie to a PC.
Addition at 6 month after buy this book: more you will use Linux, the more you will use this book, very useful
