I don´t know. Maybe I´m just past that point of childhood anguish, but while there are many kid books with which I can connect this was not one of them. That isn´t to say this wasn´t a cute story. But I also feel that this is a little early to teach kids stereotypes-- the mean, girly-girl, the kind tom-boy girl. On the bright side, it´s a clever story and I liked the way things turned out. But it´s nothing special.¤ 2) Paperback Book Bootsie Barker Bites by Putnam Juvenile. This is a good book to talk with your child about bullying and being assertive. I used it as a teaching tool in one of my first grade social skills group. We discussed the bullying behaviors Bootsie did and what the girl does to stand up for herself. Very good illustrations and a funny storyline to match.¤ 3) Paperback Book Bootsie Barker Bites by Putnam Juvenile. I read this book to my now 17 and 15 year olds when they were little and decide to find it for my younger classrooms when we began having biting issues. I think it is a story both adults and children can appreciate.¤ 4) Paperback Book Bootsie Barker Bites by Putnam Juvenile. This book was scary! Not only was I alarmed at the behavior of Bootsie, but the "victim" in the book wishes ill of Bootsie. I don´t think this teaches children the best ways to deal with bullying, to the contrary, it glorifies harmful thoughts. I DO NOT recommend this for any child.¤ 5) Paperback Book Bootsie Barker Bites by Putnam Juvenile. Whether we like it or not, we´re going to meet a real "bully" someday in either our childhood or adult years. I LOVED this book as it describes Bootsie being that bully, and the main character´s mother giving her the advice to learn to work it out (as opposed to the mother stepping in, hence teaching children not to stand up for themselves). The fact that this lead character decided to use her intelligence to stand up to Bootsie was wonderful.
6) Paperback Book Bootsie Barker Bites by Putnam Juvenile. A nasty little terror who kicks dogs, throws temper tantrums, and sticks her tongue out, Bootsie Barker only wants to play games in which she bites, until her playmate comes up with a better way to have fun.
