1) Textbook Binding Book Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting (The Landmark Series) by New Riders Pub. Cisco Router Configuration and Troubleshooting AUTHOR: Mark Tripod PUBLISHER: New Riders REVIEWED BY: Barbara Rhoades

BOOK REVIEW: This book is great for anyone already running and maintaining Cisco routers and their components. Cisco Router Configuration and Troubleshooting contains: a 4-page Content section, a 29-page Index, 16 chapters on various topics, examples of coding though out the book and fairly good sized print. These chapters are broken down into four sections: getting started, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting.

If you already have a job and wish to have a reference book to help answer some of the nagging questions, add this book to your library.¤

2) Textbook Binding Book Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting (The Landmark Series) by New Riders Pub. My friend looked it over. My friend passed the CCNA and is working on CCNP. There are lots of mistakes with the Cisco commands. The book is good in terms of being practical and shows the practical on the job aspect of Cisco. I got it cheap discounted so I don´t mind. It´s a dense little book and alot of info implies you work in networking. How many newly minted CCNAs or learning CCNA´s understand DS3´s going into a Cisco router?

However, it is a decent book that shows how it is working as a network engineer and not just learning routing academically.¤

3) Textbook Binding Book Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting (The Landmark Series) by New Riders Pub. If Cisco wasn´t the hottest certification of the IT circuit than why are there so many books being written to cover the certifications. The book is delves into a very specific area of Cisco and does a very good job of giving you a detail look in the configuration and troubleshooting process.

Starting off this 300-page book is an excellent look into TCP/IP and the OSI model. The book then moves into router configurations, followed up with LAN and WAN concepts. Each topic is given more than enough coverage and the information makes for the perfect reference manual. Also covered is SNMP and router monitoring. The book includes case studies of how to troubleshoot both the physical and network layers and routing protocols. The author makes sure to include router screen shots to show you what things are supposed to look like. While the book is not written for a specific certification, it will give you an excellent start and the coverage more than adequate to help even the foremost expert in the Cisco field.¤

4) Textbook Binding Book Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting (The Landmark Series) by New Riders Pub. Excellent! Purchased it based on the reviews of the first one and, sufficed it to say, it´s better than I expected... True, many of the concepts, configurations & TS methods covered in this book were short & to the point w/o burning too much candle on it; but then again, you shouldn´t be reading this if you´re not already experienced in internetworking or have a clue on fundamentals... NOC engineers/Network admins: Get this book! Major headache eliminator.... Beginners/"shortcut" hunters: Do yourself a favor & buy a basic guide on Cisco routing first before tackling this one (at least that´ll eliminate blaming the book because you couldn´t grasp the information contained in it).¤

5) Textbook Binding Book Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting (The Landmark Series) by New Riders Pub. This book covers a lot of protocols and various subjects -- to many to do a decent job on any one of them. It just scratches the surface. Actually I bought this bought for the so-called troubleshooting section. Save your money. The troubleshooting section involves an introduction to the ping command and the trace command, and how to look for a break in the wiring. Also, when there are router configurations listed, there is no explaination of why particular commands were used.¤

6) Textbook Binding Book Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting (The Landmark Series) by New Riders Pub. This book is a reference for the network and system administrators who find themselves having to configure and maintain existing Cisco routers as well as get new hardware up and running. The authors jump right into router configuration, discussing setup, local and wide area networking, security, and monitoring. By providing advice and preferred practices, instead of just rehashing Cisco documentation, Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting gives networking professionals information they can start using today.¤
