1) Paperback Book Piggy and Dad: Brand New Readers by Candlewick. So many of the absolute beginning readers seem to be more a grouping of words than an actual story. My son loves these books, because each one has a progression with a rather satisfying ending for an eight-page story. My son thinks the booklet about Piggy making a sandwich with his father is about the funniest thing he´s ever read, and he tells everyone the ending of the story before he gets to it. Also, the illustrations in this series is nice and bright and colorful--much more pleasant to look at than most of the branded phonics readers. These books are giving my son confidence in reading--he has to sound out most of the words, but they are within his grasp--and he really enjoys showing off his skills with these books. I wish the books grew in levels--they seem to all be for absolute beginners--but I´m happy to have these to begin to build a strong reading foundation.¤ 2) Paperback Book Piggy and Dad: Brand New Readers by Candlewick.
