The New York Times Best Diagramless Crosswords, Volume 2 (NY Times) by Random House Puzzles & Games

On 2007-02-10 riprap, Redding, CT USA wrote: I used to be a fan of the Sunday Times traditional and acrostic puzzles and The Times of London cryptic puzzles, but diagramless make those look like a Word Jumble on a kids´ menu! What makes these particularly fun (and addictive) is that they require right brain activity -- working out spacial relationships -- as well as left. Each one is very different from the last, making them to my mind much more interesting than Su Doku (which imho all begin to seem alike after a while). And diagramless puzzles aren´t nearly as difficult as they might seem at first look (and I´d always assumed they were when I was a kid). -- SPOILER ALERT -- It´s not just that the clues and answers are easier; the numbers provide clues, and one can exploit the formal patterns of the grid and shape, just as one can exploit the spelling & grammar patterns of the English (or whichever) language in an acrostic or traditional puzzle. -- END SPOILER ALERT --

This is the ONLY collection I´ve seen that´s composed entirely of diagramless puzzles. Sadly, I´ve never been able to find Volume 1, although perhaps it´s time to try another search.. And summed up by saying Diagramless Rocks!. Currently The New York Times Best Diagramless Crosswords, Volume 2 (NY Times) has an overall rating of 10 over 10.

Maleska. If you´re a newcomer to diagramless crosswords, they re solved just like regular crosswords, only you have to figure out yourself where the numbers and black squares go.And it´s not nearly as tough as it sounds this book will teach you how to solve them.
