1) Paperback Book If God Is So Good, Why Are Blacks Doing So Bad? An Urgent Call to Business, Government, Education, Entertainment, the Church--and You! by LifeBridge Books. I am thankful and grateful to Bishop James Dixon for such a great work. We need to be challenged regularly to make these much needed changes in our community, starting with the man in the mirror. As I read small excerpts to my co-workers, many responded in shock, amazement and disbelief as I presented the facts of our current condition and predicament as a people. Watchmen, continue to cry aloud and spare not, and Lord open our eyes that we might see, is my prayer.¤

2) Paperback Book If God Is So Good, Why Are Blacks Doing So Bad? An Urgent Call to Business, Government, Education, Entertainment, the Church--and You! by LifeBridge Books. James Dixon provides a multitude of information to support his reasons for why the black community in America is not performing as well as other races. This book is particularly helpful for middle class teachers, counselors, nurses, principals, and social workers who are working in low income levels. It provides a degree of understanding into the bleakness that the young black youth are bringing into society. While not all of his points are as valid as others, the book provides a gateway to begin discussion and understanding of a culture that is so different from the typical American dream. The American dream is lost on the generation that Dixon attempts to expound upon. The book was helpful in providing a mind set into the "thug society or culture" that has captured the hearts of so many young people in America. The author provides suggestions and hope for ways to end the grip of self-destruction on some segments of the population. This book is written for those who want to find ways to help youth achieve the American dream.¤

3) Paperback Book If God Is So Good, Why Are Blacks Doing So Bad? An Urgent Call to Business, Government, Education, Entertainment, the Church--and You! by LifeBridge Books. This book may be directed at Black America, but the principles and issues James Dixon addresses in this powerful message apply to Americans of all races and ethnic backgrounds. This 190-page sermon knocks you right between the eyes almost from the start and then keeps going!

My only issues, and my personal opinions, with the author´s points are that I believe he gives certain leaders like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton far too much credit. Indeed, the people Rev. Dixon quotes as original surfacers of the issues at hand, including Bill Cosby, are the very people who were among the first in the African American community to openly criticize Jackson and Sharpton. I find it deliciously ironic they have endorsed what Rev. Dixon preaches! These two would do well to permanently change their rhetoric and actions, and follow in the example of leadership exhibited by Rev. Dixon.

This "page turner" of a book is a must read if you want to have a clear, plain talk summary of the state of emergency existing in Black America today, and gain some practical things YOU can do to effect positive change. This is one of America´s - and not just Black America´s - most pressing issues today.

As an African American minister myself, take this advice: Buy and read this book! Then lend it to a friend to read it (just be sure to get it back so you can read it again)!¤

4) Paperback Book If God Is So Good, Why Are Blacks Doing So Bad? An Urgent Call to Business, Government, Education, Entertainment, the Church--and You! by LifeBridge Books. I am not an avid reader, but once I began reading this book, I could not put it down! It is a powerful and convicting book that should challenge and motivate everyone. Bishop Dixon stands strong and bring to print most of the things that everyone knows ´or thinks´ and offers answers to the question.

I really enjoyed Chapter 7, ´Our Battleships have become Cruise Ships: The Black Church´

5) Paperback Book If God Is So Good, Why Are Blacks Doing So Bad? An Urgent Call to Business, Government, Education, Entertainment, the Church--and You! by LifeBridge Books. Excellent book! I had a hard time putting it down. The information is alarming and eye opening. This book addresses issues that have long been ignored or swept under the rug and it address these issues head on. We´ve all thought it but have never said it outside of our inner circles. The most important part about the book is that it not only gives the alarming facts and statistics concerning Black America, it also gives real solutions. Things that each of us can begin to correct immediately. This book is truth backed by power. It´s a must read!!¤

6) Paperback Book If God Is So Good, Why Are Blacks Doing So Bad? An Urgent Call to Business, Government, Education, Entertainment, the Church--and You! by LifeBridge Books. This hardhitting, welldocumented book is an urgent call for business,
government, education and the church to declare a state of emergency
for African Americans. Says the author, “The black community can no longer
tolerate the scourge of crime, AIDS, poverty and shattered family structures.”

Most important, this book provides a roadmap for individuals and communities to rise from their present circumstances and become the
people God destined them to be.

The author is on a crusade to rescue Black America from impending
disaster by sounding the alarm concerning the perishing predicament of
his beloved race. In this book, he offers real solutions that are grounded in
divine wisdom and guided by proven values. The contents of this book are
sure to frustrate the comfortable and fuel the committed.¤
