Lila Pinord´s "Min´s Monster" was a fantastic read. The chapters are fairly quick, and I found myself "finding time" in my busy schedule to "read just one more..." Although the beginning was a bit slow to start for me - more so of my hectic schedule, rather than anything else - that did not last long at all...the author quickly reels you in and DOES NOT let go!
2) Paperback Book Min's Monster by Virtualbookworm.com Publishing. Min´s Monster is at first blush a horror story about an escaped psychopath, but it is much more than that. The novel starts off by inviting the reader into the world of Native American myth, which will continue to be woven beautifully throughout the tale. Lila Pinord wrote Min´s Monster in a setting that she is intimately familiar with - a remote fishing village in a time before computers and cell phones, and she deftly conveys the feel of life there in a myriad of rich details, the people, their habits and lifestyle, the places in and around the village, the people´s connection to each other, their sense of community and history, as well as the land around them. The tale is shown through the eyes of the many people involved in the history of, or the pursuit of, or race from, an utterly deranged serial killer. Where Lila really succeeds is in her subtle, evocative storytelling. You feel what the characters feel, you feel the surroundings, their struggles, their regret, their loneliness and sorrow, their fear and desperation, the icy cold of a snowstorm that has gripped the players, and you are even brought into the mind of the malevolent "Mutilator", in ways that will make you most uneasy - there moments that are truly horrifying. Lila weaves her threads carefully and thoughtfully throughout the tapestry of her story, and delivers a satisfying read - one that I easily read straight through over the course of a couple of days. Lila is a talented author and I will certainly not hesitate to pick up her other books.
3) Paperback Book Min's Monster by Virtualbookworm.com Publishing. With beautifully written descriptions Lila Pinord has transported readers to the world of a small fishing village in the Pacific Northwest. The harsh winter aids the escape from prison of a monster of a man, a serial killer bent on adding to the number of his victims. A small girl, trapped in her home, has to save not only herself, but her parents who are due home before nightfall. The mounting suspense as the story unfolded kept me reading until the end without putting the book down. I especially liked the spiritual aspects of the story which brought in Native American folklore.¤ 4) Paperback Book Min's Monster by Virtualbookworm.com Publishing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline was well thought out and extremely well written. The basic idea is that a serial killer (who goes by another identity as to not be caught) escapes from a minimum security facility and winds up in an "empty" house in a snow storm. The only problem is that the house is not empty as the young daughter of the homeowners is in the attic.
5) Paperback Book Min's Monster by Virtualbookworm.com Publishing. This is a very compelling story about a young girl who suddenly discovers that she is alone in the house with a frightening stranger. It quickly becomes apparent that this stranger means to do her harm. The reader knows the stranger is a serial killer. The girl only knows her life is in danger! Pinord does a fantastic job of creating characters you can believe. The sheriff´s deputy, the killer´s mother, the girl and her parents, etc. The backdrop is a Native American village in the state of Washington. The author is supurb at painting this background and the people in it with a semi-autobiographical feeling, as she truly empathizes with young Min and her family and their surroundings. There is even a touch of genuine Native American folklore and mythology adding a delightful touch that makes it easier for the reader to relate to the characters. Pinord builds the tension and suspense beautifully, as the killer pursues the young girl, and as the parents struggle to get through the brutal snowstorm to get to their stranded daughter. Also, as various small town law enforcement officials try to track down the escaped killer. The tension builds at a nail-biting pace, and you find yourself rooting for the young girl and her parents. I wish Amazon had a more specific rating system. I would rate this book 4.7 stars! Over all, this was a wonderfully suspenseful book. I would like to make two strong recommendations: 1. Read this book! 2. Always lock your doors, even in a snowstorm!
6) Paperback Book Min's Monster by Virtualbookworm.com Publishing. Young Min passes up a chance for a pre-Thanksgiving trip to the city with her parents, never suspecting that this decision will place her in a life-or-death situation. Due to the ferocious snowstorm that catches everyone by surprise, her parents are stranded out on an impassible highway, but it provides the cover Bruno Hessle, a maniacal serial killer, needs to walk away from a minimum security prison near the Quinnu village. He holes up in the warm kitchen where Min sleeps up in the attic to keep warm; forcing her to use everything she has been taught to escape the clutches of this madman.
