1) Audio CD Book Getting Unstuck by Sounds True, Incorporated. Listening to Pema Chodron speak is a delightful experience in itself, with her soft lyrical voice. Her teachings are clear and sound, and punctuated with delightful humor. The teachings were given to a live "audience" and there are points during this taping in which she takes direct questions from the audience. This is a wonderful part of this book!

The teachings provide a way of looking squarely at the things that "hook" us so that we can be free from the fantasies, cravings and addictions that drain our lives. It is about taking joy in seeing clearly what we do (even if it´s difficult to look at), so we don´t become discouraged and hopeless. She refers to the things, the thoughts, the urges, that "hook" us as "shempa". She talks about how to "stay" with the discomfort of shempa, instead of feeding our habits of running away through distraction.

If I took nothing else away but this meditation: "Since death is certain, and the time of death is uncertain, what is the most important thing." I took a lot. The intended results of the teachings are not just to free us, but to humble us and to help us understand others, to have more compassion, to be motivated to work with our shempa rather than being critical of others who are struggling with their own. It´s not our thoughts, but how that they hook us.¤

While she is a practising buddhist nun, her insights and advice are compelling for people of all backgrounds. I have owned this volume for over 2 years now and keep returning to it when life gets tough. It is a wonderful companion with practical wisdom and I can imagine it being my companion through life´s journey.
But this is not just an exercise in "feel good", it is an invitation and practical guide to reach your highest potential.¤

This CD set is taken from a series of classes given by Pema Chodron to help us to understand that we can have some control over the thoughts and emotions that enter our minds. Although meditation is the primary tool used by Buddhists to be become of aware of and work with thoughts and emotions, the information given by Pema Chodron is not specific to meditation. We all have trouble dealing with our emotions at times, and these teachings help us to see what it is that we are dealing with and offers advise on how to deal with our emotions. I don´t meditate, but I found the information to be very useful and I believe it can be of benefit to everyone. Pema Chodron speaks in a very accessable manner and uses stories and humor to illustrate her teachings, making it very easy to listen to these CD´s. I can´t imagine that anyone would not appreciate hearing them--I´ve listened to them several times. I highly recommend this set.¤

4) Audio CD Book Getting Unstuck by Sounds True, Incorporated. Perhaps the title doesn´t exactly describe Pema´s discussion topics but nevertheless what she talks about it well worth it!! Pema´s insights and her ability to explain them in simple Western ways makes her a gem. The practices and teachings discussed in "Getting Unstuck" will stick with me forever and ever. They are very meaningful, helpful, realistic, understandable and practical.
If you are looking for a fresh way to examine why you do the things you do (over and over again), this Pema seminar is for you!¤
