1) Paperback Book Winning Chess Endgames: Just the Facts!, Second Edition by Chess Information and Research Center. This is a GREAT book! I just recently finished reading and PLAYING through the entire book, and lo and behold my rating on the Internet Chess Club has jumped over a 100 points since I finished the book. (I am still a newbie but I am now finally beating some players who are rated higher than me)

This book is the not the only reason I have gotten better. I have been studying plenty of tactics and playing through the games of Capablanca (Chernev´s book on Capa´s endings). I have also been making sure to PRACTICE what I learned in this book with the Endgame Modules on Chessimo (formerly PCT). The fact remains that I am now winning games I used to lose.

Studying the endgame not only gives you the ability to play the endgame it also helps you to realize the intrinsic kinetic energy of the pieces. I know that sounds weird but it is true.

I know a lot of people are very high on Silman´s book and I am sure it is great. After looking at it I just couldn´t bring myself to purchase it because I didn´t like the idea of only studying the endgames "required" of my level. I think that defeats the purpose of studying the Endgame. Just the Facts lays out all the different types of endgames with great diagrams and very clear and concise prose. You have to play through the examples on a board and then PRACTICE your new knowledge either with software or an endgame puzzle book.

I plan to read this book again!!

Highly recommended!!!!!!!¤

2) Paperback Book Winning Chess Endgames: Just the Facts!, Second Edition by Chess Information and Research Center. Just the facts...I´m not sure what it is about this book. Maybe it´s just plain boring. The material is thoughtful. The diagrams are good.

I will keep this book and read it over again but it didn´t get the job done for example like "Silman´s Complete Endgame Course". This book will help you improve your endgame but it feels kind of like school.¤

3) Paperback Book Winning Chess Endgames: Just the Facts!, Second Edition by Chess Information and Research Center. I liked this book. Most of it was so easy to understand and follow that I could review the positions in my head. I especially like how Albert explains principles of what you need to do rather than making you grind through hundreds of ending positions.¤

4) Paperback Book Winning Chess Endgames: Just the Facts!, Second Edition by Chess Information and Research Center. I picked this work up on the word of a club mate who beleived this was the greatest endgame work written for novice level players. After reading the work I was impressed. This work covers the very basics up to multi piece endings. I´M truely amazed that GM Krogius was able to condense so much information on the endgame and make it so the information was easily digestable for the reader. With a careful study of this work you will be able to dive into some advanced endgame subjects in no time. It is clear why this book was the ´Chess Journalists of America´s´ book of the year. If you are in the market for a good book on the endgame then ´Just the Facts´ is the book you need!!!!!!!!!¤

5) Paperback Book Winning Chess Endgames: Just the Facts!, Second Edition by Chess Information and Research Center. I bought this book about a year ago, and I´m sure it´s okay. However, I recently bought "Silman´s Complete Endgame Course," which has been much more helpful. "Just the Facts" breaks endgames down by position type (for example Rook Endgames). Silman´s breaks endgames down by the player´s ability. So there is a chapter for beginners, then "E" players, then "D" players, etc. For me (a "D" player) the Silman approach was much more rewarding. "Just the Facts" is probably great for better players, but if you´re learning, I highly recommend Silman´s.¤

6) Paperback Book Winning Chess Endgames: Just the Facts!, Second Edition by Chess Information and Research Center. Winner of the prestigious Chess Journalists of America Book of the Year award, this single book boils down all essential endgame wisdom into one you can use to win games for the rest of your life.

Nothing more clearly separates chess master from chess wannabe than winning endgame play. For most chess players, victory is the real finish line. And the endgame is the last lap of the race.

This revised, updated edition of Just the Facts! brings English readers the once strictly guarded and time-tested Soviet training methods, the key to the 50-year Russian dominance of the chess world. Winning Chess Endgames can take you from beginner to master. Two-color chess illustrations throughout.¤
