1) Paperback Book Motown From The Background by Bank House Books. The accolades are long overdue to three of the most talented ladies--the Andantes. Motown Records is about to turn 50 this year and I hope that they include the Andantes in their tribute as well as the Funk brothers because they roo are part of Motown´s tapestry that made it The Sound Of Young America. i thought the book was well written and well informative. I came out knowing a little more than I did before, never knowing that the andnates sang on the Marvelettes´ "Hunter Gets Captured By The Game".

It is also an honor for me to be included in the Reflections portion of the book with oher fans and friends. Vickie wright is a wonderful author and get s down to the nitty gritty literarily speaking!!! I can´t wait for her next offering and I am sure that there will be!!!

2) Paperback Book Motown From The Background by Bank House Books. oh hell no, the supremes were diana ross, mary wilson, and florence ballard. once the andantes came into the picture; the sound of the supremes was gone. diana ross and the andantes did not produce the the hits that diana, mary, and flo produced. the public was mislead. i would think that probably this was not the only group that berry gordy misled the public on. cindy birdsong got pretty much no credit for her vocals and not much of a chance to record her vocals.¤

3) Paperback Book Motown From The Background by Bank House Books. I bought the book in hopes of gaining more insight on the making of the great songs created in the Pit at Motown. And what better way to gain that information than by hearing it from people who were there -- the background singers! Though gossip, secrets, and revealing information that we haven´t already read in the multitude of Motown books already published would have been worth the price of the book; the first 100 or so pages of this book kept reiterating, numerous times, that this book will not reveal any deep dark secrets of anybody. Each member of the group kept repeating the fact that the book was not written to hurt anyone and stressed the need to preserve the integrity of their former friends and fellow-singers; the importance of respecting the families of former and present stars, etc.

Then finally, towards the back of the book, Ms. Louvain Demps tells her story of her life after the Andantes were disgarded and forgotten when Motown moved to California. THIS section of the book was revealing, very deeply written, and really gives the reader additional information on the life of the Andantes post-Motown. Her perseverance and strong constitution to survive and provide for her family is astonishing. The Andantes also admonishes the necessity of gaining knowledge of the entertainment business. Her ability to forgive, if only to maintain her mental health, is beneficial to say the least.

The down part of this book are remarks from a lot of people nobody knows. If the writer could have secured more comments from known stars and other well-known singers who benefitted from the Andantes singing on their hit records, would have been better reading. Of course their best friends and family will bestow upon them kind sweet words. It would have been great to hear from the Supremes, Temptations (Otis), and others who were there at the time.

And most of all it was also wonderful to hear that Ms. Demps is in the Ministry now and found the Lord and peace in her life. God Bless!

4) Paperback Book Motown From The Background by Bank House Books. Poorly edited, disjointed story of some of Motown´s greatest session singers. I was disappointed by the way the book is laid out. It is very similar to three essays compiled into one volume. The story doesn´t flow and there is an essay from a friend injected into the middle of the book. His essay includes incorrect information to boot! The author´s book collaboration with Ludie Montgomery regarding her sister Tammi Terrell was a better read and a better book. I had to force myself to finish it.¤

5) Paperback Book Motown From The Background by Bank House Books. Louvain, Marlene and Jackie are the true sound of Motown! These ladies are royalty and have finally gotten their due. I enjoyed this story of three of the greatest voices in music history. Not only is this a wonderful book, but a journey of love and dedication. I had the privilege of speaking with Louvain Demps over the phone back in July of 2007. I will never forget her kind words and beautiful spirit. I learned alot in our almost 20 minute conversation about being true to oneself and loving people that we may never meet in this lifetime. The last thing that Louvain said to me was to remember her when I hear Four Tops´ "Reach Out, I´ll Be There". I do and I will always. Thank you Vickie, for this would not have been possible without you. Buy this book and learn some amazing lessons about life and the music business. God bless you beautiful ladies and much love Louvain.¤

6) Paperback Book Motown From The Background by Bank House Books. Estimates of the number of records The Andantes appear on vary wildly, up to and including twenty thousand. Their sweet, pure and powerful voices were every bit as much a part of the Motown phenomenon as the fantastic Funk Brothers, the ace arrangers and the peerless producers. Louvain Demps, Marlene Barrow and Jackie Hicks added their voices, and their own vocal arrangements, to classics by the Four Tops, Jimmy Ruffin, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and all the company´s uniquely successful roster of male stars. Perhaps more surprisingly, they also contributed more than they have ever been given credit for to records, not only by solo female perfomers such as Kim Weston and Brenda Holloway, but by Motown´s legendary girl groups. The time for keeping their contribution a secret is over. These great ladies need to be recognised for their momentous contribution to musical history, and Bank House is proud and delighted to play a part in making that possible. Author Vickie Wright, fresh from telling the true story of tragic Motown songstress Tammi Terrell in collaboration with her sister, Ludie Montgomery, has done another first-rate job in coaxing the stories, the memories, the emotions and the truth from The Andantes themselves. Now it can be told. This is Motown from the Background.¤
