1) Mass Market Paperback Book Antarktos Rising by Breakneck Books. If you like end-of the-world-action thrillers, with some scientific accuracy, pass on this book. Some reviewers compare it to Rollins and Crichton, but there is no comparison. This lame entry is short on science and way too heavy on fundamentalist religion. Not what I expected from the promos--I´m just glad I waited until it was out in paperback before I bought it. This way I´m only out $8 instead of $20 or so for the hardback.¤

2) Mass Market Paperback Book Antarktos Rising by Breakneck Books. I got this book because I am a huge James Rollins fan and this falls in line with his type of writing and I am waiting for his next book. I liked Antarkos so much I quickly ordered the other two by this author and have read them all in the last two weeks. They are great action reads and I highly recommend them, especially if you are a James Rollins or Matt Reilly fan....¤

3) Mass Market Paperback Book Antarktos Rising by Breakneck Books. The characters are shallow and predictable, the plot is nonsensical, and the writing is awkward, but I´m going to skip all of that.

This book quickly degrades into religious ramblings. I don´t know which was the straw the broke the camel´s back for me; it could have been the multi-page monologue about the scientific evidence for "the Flood," the railings against modern science for being faith based, the expert, matter-of-fact descriptions of fallen angels given by the main character, or the repetitive quoting of bible passages.

This story begins like the kind of pulp you´d pick up in an airport to pass a long flight, but finishes feeling like a confused sermon from an Evangelical Christian.

The last line of the book neatly summarizes the feel of the cliched tripe you´re about to encounter.

"Your will be done."

I actually put the book down and laughed out loud.

Avoid this book. Save your time for something less horrible.¤

4) Mass Market Paperback Book Antarktos Rising by Breakneck Books. Antarktos Rising is the story of an epic journey to a new world after a phenomenon, known as crustal displacement, shifts the earth´s crust and repositions continents, leaving countless dead in its wake. As the world struggles to take care of its displaced billions, Antarctica emerges as a new hope. The leading nations devise a competition - a race to the center of Antarctica - with the three victors dividing the continent between them. Mirabelle Whitney, a survivor of the displacement and an expert on Antarctica, is recruited to guide an American Special Forces unit across the thawed-out continent. But they discover the continent has already been claimed by an ancient enemy of humanity and God--the Nephilim. As survivors of the Genesis flood (Genesis 6:4) and frozen Antarctic, they have re-emerged to continue their dominance of mankind. As the offspring of human mothers and demon fathers they were feared due to their giant stature and evil nature. As Mirabelle and the world race to claim a new continent, they realize there is a danger far more frightening than the evil intentions of their fellow man. Antarktos Rising explores the science behind the Genesis flood, the reality of the Nephilim and the possibility of God using the flood to not just wipe out a corrupt population, but a human race that carried the Nephilim genetic code. A different view of our bible views. Interesting with twists, not you usual science fiction!¤

5) Mass Market Paperback Book Antarktos Rising by Breakneck Books. It seems that most of the time, "global disaster," books are about preventing the event and result of course in a last second catch to save the planet. In Antarktos Rising the author has skipped right past the chance to prevent disaster with how to deal with it. The disaster here, called crustal displacement kills billions of people and renders America pretty much a frozen wasteland as is much of the world that is now the most inhabitable and in this shift causes Antarctica to become the most desirable and inhabitable country. The race for Antartica between three teams is interesting in it´s premise. Even now, with the entire earth to share we manage to fight over nearly every piece of land so it is an interesting premise to think that three countries could devise a race for the most desirable place and then will honor it. The characters involved in this are complex and interesting and add a great deal to this story which also manages to be very believable while it combines scientific theories with religious ones. Then thrown into the mix of man and religion comes the pre-historic upheaval involved. While this could sound convoluted it actually turns into a fascinating read that leaves one breathlessly turning each page while not wanting the book to end. This book has the ability to keep you awake at night, not only in figuring out how to help solve the problems but also because you just don´t want to put it down.

6) Mass Market Paperback Book Antarktos Rising by Breakneck Books.

THE WORLD RACES TO CLAIM A NEW CONTINENT...

A phenomenon known as crustal displacement shifts the Earth´s crust, repositioning continents and causing countless deaths. In the wake of the global catastrophe, the world struggles to take care of its displaced billions. But Antarctica, freshly thawed and blooming, has emerged as a new hope. Rather than wage a world war no nation can endure, the leading nations devise a competition, a race to the center of Antarctica, with the three victors dividing the continent.

It is within this race that Mirabelle Whitney, one of the few surviving experts on the continent, grouped with an American special forces unit, finds herself. But the dangers awaiting the team are far worse than feared; beyond the sour history of a torn family, beyond the nefarious intentions of their human enemies, beyond the ancient creatures reborn through anhydrobiosis--there are the Nephilim.

...ONLY TO FIND IT ALREADY TAKEN.
