1) DVD DVD Johnny Tremain by Walt Disney Home Entertainment. It would appeal more to someone my age who watched it as a child. Today´s kids would not get it at all.¤ 2) DVD DVD Johnny Tremain by Walt Disney Home Entertainment. I though it was a good flick, but I have not read the book. It treats a heavy subject lightly. We had just finished the Revolutionary War. They loved it! I also found a study guide to go along with it.¤ 4) DVD DVD Johnny Tremain by Walt Disney Home Entertainment. Johnny Tremain was a tiny Disney movie on early American History (or was it myth?). Yet it captured the minds and hearts of kids and adults of the time and helped spread some historic culture throughout the land.
Having said that, the modern perspective of things has changed all this and by today´s standards it is at best a nice little adventure movie, but nothing more.
Many inaccuracies and liberties with historic fact have made it into what it is: a nice escapist movie.
The acting is solid and keeps you involved. Nothing to be said there.
The image and sound quality is impeccable considering the age of this movie (1957). Colors are vivid and there are only minor picture flaws that disappear completely to the untrained eye.

Based on Esther Forbes´s book of the same name, Johnny Tremain takes place in Boston from July 1773 through April 1775, and tells the story of a young apprentice silversmith drawn into a fight for human rights. When an accident cripples Johnny Tremain´s hand and ends his hopes of becoming a great silversmith, Tremain finds himself without work and accused of a crime he did not commit. Sons of Liberty members Paul Revere and Josiah Quincy are outraged by the circumstantial case against Tremain, agree to represent him free of charge, and win his acquittal in court. Through association with his new friends, Tremain begins to better understand the current political climate, and eventually joins them in the battle for freedom. Tremain´s involvement in the emptying of British tea into Boston Harbor, the arrival of the Redcoats in Boston, and the beginnings of the American Revolution at Concord is powerful and moving. The costuming is splendid, the music patriotic, and the dialogue well crafted. The film stars Hal Stalmaster as Johnny Tremain, costars Luana Patten and Jeff York, and runs 80 minutes.
